How Old Are You?

There are many criteria to understand how old is a person. But if you ask a person "after 30", everybody will say you that he/she doesn't want to think about the age because "I feel young else".

I'm "after" too and am often surprized to hear what persons I know say when they speak about their age. In poor words the main meaning is: it's a tragedy and the persons are afraid to think about it. I don't know, nobody wants to be thankful to the life for the age. Nobody wants to remember that there are so many persons that die after the birth, at the age of some years ecc.

My personal behaviour is unusual. I think, my age is very entertaining. Because I am much more free as I was when I was younger. I have not to think to conquist, to demonstrate, to, to... Even in our society where nobody respects others, the age is respected. It's true. So, I can even do or say stupidities, and the younger persons have to show respect to me. I'm young, but I'm old enough to enjoy this situation. It's incredibly entertaining.
Don't you think so?

On the photo is italian scientist Rita Levi Montalcini, born on April 22 in 1909. Nobel Prize in medicine 1986. Don't know how it is today, but till a year ago I know, she was a head of her laboratory.

Is It Servility Or Wissdom?

Some of you will say maybe that this is a post for my other blog, "Animals As Friends" but the thoughts that come when I read about it are not about animals but about humans.

I read this notice different times today:

Scientists noticed a dolphin female that teaches other members of her group to move standing on the tail. It's something that the wild dolphins never do. It's a trick they learn in captivity. That female was ill 20 years ago and was recovered. She did not learn tricks but could see them maybe. And now she teaches others to do it. (photo)

I remembered a poem of Gotthold Ephraim Lessing in this context. I like this poem very much from the times of my study at the university.

The poem is about the Bear that runs away from the man and turns back in the forest. It shows the dance on the back legs, that learned during it's life on the cattle, to other bears and is proud that nobody can repeat this dance. One old Bear says: oh yes, it's the high art, it's very difficult, really. Shows your low spirit and servility.

Now, the thoughts I have reading these stories are: who is right -the dolphin-female or Lessing? I'm with Lessing. I think it's servility...

Today I read an article by CNN about solar energy that will become affordable for everybody and remembered a photo I made when we turnd home from sea. It's unusual sight here in Italy. Sincerely I could not understand why a country with so much sun and wind as this don't uses it at all practically. There are not so much places where you can see something like this. And the solar batteries are not so often to find too.

It's a pitty, really. Everybody could put some batteries on the roof of the own house and produce energy to sell it to other countries, I think. I don't think they would cost soooooooo much for the monster of energy like Enel. Or for the Country. Maybe I'm not right.

I wanted to install solar batteries once when they spoke about governative help to the persons that want to do it. But it was not true. And the prices were so high, that I had to renounce. I would do it. And the article of CNN gave a hope to me. But I think it's not for Italy... unfortunatelly.

Shakespeare's first "Theater"

Non all my life but many years of it I was sure that Shakespeare was not a single person but a sort of a special name for a group of persons. Scientists wrote about expertises of the texts and graphia and these followed a decision: they, texts, were written by different persons.

That is the information I had.

Now I read an article from BBC: archeologists found the foundation of the theater where the first plays of Shakespeare were presented. It was the first special theater building in London.

15 years after the "Theater" was built, a new artist, Shakespeare, come there. Here "Hamlet" was presented for the first time .

In 1598 the "Theater" was transfered to the other part of Thames and the other theater, "Globe" that you see on the photo I found in Wikipedia, was built.

Archeoloists knew about existance of this first theater but now they have finally the confirmation of it.

There are many different stories about sexual costumes in Thailand, but this one seems to be exagerated.

The notice is from BBC (photo and article) and here is the video that unfortunatelly is unpossible to embed in the blog.

One scool invented a special toilet for transsexual puples. Boys don't accept them, girls don't accept them, but there are always about 10-20% of puples that at 12-17 years of age just declare themselves as transsexuals.

I asked the headmaster whether they were not too young to be making decisions about their gender.

He said that, in his 35 years of working in the Thai education system, he had come across many boys like this, and they never changed. Many go on as adults to have sex-change surgery, while others will live as gay men, he said.

I learned the story of transsexuals and acceptance of them in the human history about a year ago. It was said, between all, that it was normal use in poor families to educate beautiful boys as females to sell them later to rich men and to facilitate their life as adults.

Here is the first sentence from this article:

It (this school) is situated in Thailand's impoverished north-east, and most of the pupils are the children of farmers.

Maybe THIS is the reason of this strange enormous number of boys making this not less strange decision at this age?
