Plastic pollution is a growing environmental crisis impacting our oceans, wildlife, and even human health. Here's a quick update on the issue, along with resources to learn more and get involved:
My Epiphyllum collection has two new flowers. One, the red, is the largest flower I have had. Perhaps, if there is flowering someday, “Queen of the Night” will have an even bigger flower.
Did you notice that every “navel of the world” pretends you “verify your information” by uploading photos of your documents? Here is one of them:
.. members have the option to verify their identity by uploading a government ID and/or taking a live selfie using certain trusted partners.
I already wrote that more epiphyllum plants are blooming in my house this year (The Spring Flowering of Epiphyllum Begins). It's the second year I've had flowering. I bought 15 varieties of this plant from a lady who reproduces them and sells them through her Facebook profile. For 2 or 3 years there were no flowers. A year ago there was one plant.
Who knew that saving the planet could also save you some serious cash? Get ready to laugh your way to a more sustainable lifestyle!
I am sharing with you something truly fascinating that I recently learned about - the benefits observed in wine quality and nutrient density in produce grown under regenerative practices. As someone who appreciates good food and wine like you do, I thought you would find this as intriguing as I did.
Do you often feel glued to your chair, binge-watching Netflix or scrolling through social media for hours? Well, it’s time to stand up and pay attention because your life might just depend on it.
The days I spent this weekend volunteering with FAI, the Italian Environment Fund, led me to think about this phenomenon of cultural volunteering. Interestingly, not only was I very enthusiastic after participating in this initiative, but all the volunteers wrote in the group how happy they were to participate.
Once upon a time, in a bustling city filled with honking cars and busy pedestrians, there lived a woman named Emily. Emily was a hardworking professional who thrived in her career but found herself constantly battling the pressures of everyday stress. From deadlines at work to family obligations, Emily felt like she was always on the edge of burnout.
Walking is awesome for health in so many ways. First off, it's like a free ticket to a healthier heart. When you walk, you get that blood pumping and your heart gets stronger. Plus, it's a great stress-buster. When you're out for a walk, you can clear your mind and let go of all that tension. And don't even get me started on how it can help you lose weight. It's a simple way to burn some extra calories and keep that metabolism going strong.
Another cool thing about walking is how it can boost your mood. Seriously, it's like nature's happy pill. When you're walking, your brain releases those feel-good chemicals that can lift your spirits and make you feel more positive. Plus, it's a great way to get some fresh air and soak up some Vitamin D from the sun. And let's not forget about how it can improve your overall fitness level. Walking regularly can help build up your endurance and strength, making everyday activities feel like a breeze. So lace up those sneakers and hit the pavement – your body will thank you!
Many people need to live their whole lives according to plan. They get up at a specific time and eat what they should eat following the latest trends. They sit at the computer at a set time and check emails for 15 minutes, and another 15 look for news on the topic they're working on...
I honestly envy these people.
As a teacher with years of experience, I have observed that many individuals encounter specific pronunciation challenges when they begin to learn the English language independently. While self-study can be a valuable and empowering way to learn a new language, it's important to be aware of the common pitfalls that learners may face, especially in the realm of pronunciation.
Spring is a magical time when nature awakens from its winter slumber, and one of the most enchanting spectacles is the blooming of flowers in forests and meadows. As the days grow longer and temperatures rise, an array of colorful blossoms emerge, creating a picturesque scene that delights the senses.
Epiphyllum, also known as orchid cactus, is a stunning and unique plant that is sure to add a touch of tropical beauty to any home or garden. These plants are native to Central and South America and are known for their large, showy flowers that bloom in a variety of colors, including pink, white, yellow, and red.
I have about fifteen varieties of epiphyllum at home and almost all of them flowered last year, except this one you see in the photo. So, this is its first flowering. Other varieties have buds but need still time to open them.
In Val Maira, time appears to stand still, offering visitors a glimpse into a bygone era. One of the region's intriguing attractions is Europe's loftiest library.
Nestled in Marmora (CN) in Val Maira, this remarkable library sits at an elevation of 1,580 meters and owes its existence to Father Sergio De Piccoli, an erudite Benedictine monk. The library finds its home within the spacious confines of the Marmora rectory, celebrated for its vast array of literary treasures.
Life in the mountains seems frozen in time, and a visit to this unassuming library leaves an indelible mark. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a modestly furnished room, serving as a multi-functional space with a bed, kitchen, and table all in one. Descending further reveals a labyrinth of rooms brimming with books, some exceedingly rare, forming a collection exceeding 75,000 volumes. They permeate every nook and cranny, some forming series so complete they're unmatched elsewhere.
Navigating through the corridors, visitors are enveloped in the aroma of aged pages and the weight of history. Each book holds a story, a fragment of knowledge preserved through time. Some volumes, now relics, evoke a sense of reverence as they whisper tales of eras long past.
As one wanders amidst the shelves, the library becomes more than a repository of books; it becomes a sanctuary of wisdom, a testament to the enduring pursuit of knowledge. Father Sergio De Piccoli's vision has created a haven where the past converges with the present, offering solace and enlightenment to all who venture within its walls.
Indeed, the highest library in Europe stands not only as a testament to human endeavor but also as a beacon of intellectual curiosity amidst the majestic peaks of Val Maira.
Meet Sofia, a hardworking woman in her mid-thirties who lives in a small town in Italy. Sofia works long hours at a local restaurant, and her days are often filled with the hustle and bustle of serving customers and managing the kitchen. Despite her love for her job, the stress and physical demands of her work often leave her feeling exhausted and drained.
One day, Sofia's friend tells her about the incredible natural hot springs in Pré-Saint-Didier at the foot of Mont Blanc and suggests that she take a day off to visit them. Intrigued by the idea of unwinding and rejuvenating in the soothing waters, Sofia decides to take her friend's advice and makes plans to visit the thermal baths.
I was looking down from the bridge when a man passing by in his car turned back and approached me. “What are you doing here, my lady? Are you okay? Please don't jump off the bridge,” he asked me very seriously. I was surprised. I was in a public place and not doing anything wrong. Yet, this man stopped in a location where hardly anyone passes by just to talk to me… He understood my confusion. “Don't worry, I don't want to harm you. Don't be afraid. This place has a bad reputation: many people come here to commit suicide. I stopped because I was worried that you might be searching for the best spot to jump off, and I wanted to console you…”
I was taken aback by his concern and compassion. I assured him that I wasn't planning on jumping off the bridge, but I was just taking a moment to clear my head and enjoy the view. He seemed relieved and we ended up having a long conversation about life, struggles, and the importance of reaching out for help when feeling overwhelmed.
After our conversation, he offered to take me for a cup of coffee and we ended up spending the rest of the afternoon talking and getting to know each other. It was a random encounter that turned into a meaningful connection. I never expected that a stranger would show such genuine care and concern for me. It was a reminder that there are good people out there, willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
As we parted ways, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the man who had stopped to check on me. It was a simple act of kindness that made a big impact on me. I promised myself that I would pay it forward and be more aware of those around me who might need a listening ear or a comforting presence. That chance encounter on the bridge taught me that sometimes, a small gesture of compassion can make all the difference.
