The Spring Flowering of Epiphyllum Begins

Epiphyllum, also known as orchid cactus, is a stunning and unique plant that is sure to add a touch of tropical beauty to any home or garden. These plants are native to Central and South America and are known for their large, showy flowers that bloom in a variety of colors, including pink, white, yellow, and red.

I have about fifteen varieties of epiphyllum at home and almost all of them flowered last year, except this one you see in the photo. So, this is its first flowering. Other varieties have buds but need still time to open them.

One of the most striking features of epiphyllums is their ability to bloom at night, filling the air with a sweet, intoxicating fragrance. These plants are also known for their long, flat, and fleshy stems that resemble leaves, which is why they are often mistaken for cacti.

I probably don't have the nocturnal varieties. Only Queen of the Night, which doesn't seem to want to flower this year either. It has become more than a meter long, but no flowers.

Here you can see how big the flower of this variety is. Not all of them are so big. There are little flowers. I will show them to you when they open their buds.

Epiphyllums are relatively easy to care for, requiring bright, indirect light and well-draining soil. They should be watered regularly during the growing season but allowed to dry out between waterings during the dormant winter months. These plants can also benefit from occasional fertilization to promote healthy growth and blooming.

A neighbor advised me to water my plants with water from the thermal sulfur spring which is not too far from my house. I have to say it's a really fantastic solution. All the plants feel very good. I use special solutions for cactuses, too. My epiphyllums live outside in summer and inside on the veranda in winter.

If you're looking to add a touch of exotic beauty to your home or garden, consider adding an epiphyllum to your collection. It's easy to find rooted cuttings for sale, even from passionate women in Facebook groups, for example.

With their stunning flowers and easy care requirements, these plants are sure to be a showstopper wherever you choose to display them.
