In the contemporary digital era, individuals are constantly inundated with vast amounts of information, a phenomenon widely recognized as “information overload”. This state occurs when an individual is exposed to more data than their cognitive system can effectively process, leading to stress, confusion, and a diminished capacity for decision-making. 

On platforms like LinkedIn, which are described as “crowded places”, this overload is exacerbated. Recipients typically actively "look for reasons to delete messages without reading it”, indicating a defensive posture against further cognitive strain.

The continuous exposure to excessive information and communication requests on social media platforms contributes to "social media fatigue". 

This fatigue is not merely a feeling of tiredness but is linked to various negative psychological conditions, including heightened anxiety, general unhappiness, and a reduction in an individual's belief in their ability to manage their own health. 

Cognitive load theory provides a framework for understanding this phenomenon, positing that the human brain has inherent limits to how much information it can process simultaneously. 

When messages are overly long, dense, or poorly structured, they impose a significant "extraneous cognitive load", thereby contributing to confusion, frustration, decreased comprehension, and ultimately, disengagement.
