Floors If The Roman Houses

You remember surely my post about Roman "art of life", Pictures On The Walls In Herculaneum/ Ercolano, where I posted some photos of the pictures that were on the walls of the Roman houses. I want to write about some other posts about the art in the life of Romans and this is the second post about the decorations of the floors.

We noticed that many houses had marble on the floors and not simple pieces but made like carpets or pictures and ornaments.

Here is one of the most believed topics from the entrance of one of the houses of Pompei

My photos are from Herculaneum. Most of them, except the last here are from the male and female public baths.

This house has this beautiful carpet. Floors in the other houses were made more or less the same way.

TV Options For Our Family

Great love of all the family is Direct TV and it is incredibly that everybody of us finds something interesting to watch there. So many chanels! Games and cartoons for our girls, local chanels and all sorts of sports for my husband, fashion and health for me and documentaries from history, animal life, tourismus for all us. It's so cute to abbrace them and to feel them nestle up to me. Someone says they will go one day and there is not a thing that will take them nearby. Well, it's the life and that is why I appreciate it so much.

The other peculiarity of Directv we like so much is the possibility to watch many and best channels in HD. The number of channels that are available in HD is simply impressioning. Even some local channels offer the very best view. No, it's not essentional for us, but we like these clear pictures specially when we watch documentaries. And we watch them very often.

There is not problem if you move in an other state. It's enough to open mytvoptions.com and insert your zip code. Moved, we found it very easy to find Direct TV in NY and precisely in our zone of this beautiful but enormous city. Insert our zip code it was necessary only one moment to see the confirmation that all our preferit networks "moved" together with us. There is nothing more pleasant as permanence in the life.

Shopping In Salerno, Where To Eat

After I described you the shopping streets of Salerno in my precedent posts
Shopping In Salerno, Via Vittorio Emmanuele
Shopping In Salerno, Via Mercanti
I want to tell some words about the places where you can rest and eat or drink something.

Shopping In Salerno

Practically you will meet a ice-cream shop or a bar or a sort of fast food evey 10 steps. With tables in the street where you can sit so much you want.

Shopping In Salerno

you can buy something and go out or you can sit at the table and wait that somebody comes to ask you what you like to eat. Normally you can pay AFTER you finished to eat. Relatively rare is to find places where you have to pay first.

Really perfect are the ice-creams. They are not industrial but often made directly in the shop or in a local fabric. In some of the shops (like this on the photo) you can find about hundred tastes. They ar so as you can imagin: normal, with yoghurt, with soya, with I don't know what else.
And they are GOOOOOOOD!!!!!
Mmmmmm.....................

Shopping In Salerno, Via Vittorio Emmanuele

We continue our walk through the shopping-streets of Salerno. In the first part I wrote about Via Mercanti that is the main shopping street in the old town.

Via Mercanti finishes with the square and continue in the same direction with via Vittorio Emmanuele.

You can see clearly the differences of 2 streets. This one is large and modern. Every time you see right in a side street you can see the sea (under the palms in the background of my photo). It is only about 10-20 meters far from here where we are now.

Same little shops -only the street is large.

Finally -about half an hour after we entered the old town- we reach the finish: the square of railway station of Salerno.

If we go now right, in the direction of sea, we will find other 2 main streets of Salerno that are shopping streets but they are dedicated to the vehicles too.

This is the first

And the second is the sea front. Very very beautiful. You can see it in my other posts about Salerno.

Shopping In Salerno, Via Mercanti

Elena asked me to post photos and to write about the shopping-street in Salerno. She read about "a very convenient shopping-street" in Salerno in a forum.

As "aborigens" we rarely go for shopping in Salerno. I love Salerno but this town is too expensive. No, there are interesting shops, things and is possible to find good prices there too. But normally we prefere to go to Naples. It's a capital, there are more possibilities and the prices are much more attractive as in Salerno.

As promised, I made some photos yesterday when I went there.

Generally is possible to say, all the doors that go out in the streets in the center of the town are shops. That is why we canot speak about "a shopping-street".
The most important, dedicated ONLY to the shopping is via Mercanti in the old town that continue in via Vittorio Emanuele, large and modern, that finishes with the railway station of Salerno. Or contrary. Dipends from the side you arrive in Salerno. I come there from the part of old town and so you see it first on my photos.

I enter in the old town from one of the side-streets

And here you see the "main street" in all it's beauty.

Shopping in Salerno, via Mercanti

As said before, every door and hole are shops there.

For the doors you can see the owners that generally will be very happy if you enter inside and will "take you very hard" to make you buy at least something. If you buy something, the price will dipend from your face: the face "with money" or "foreign" or "touristic" (that means "stupid") will pay 3-4 times more than a "local" or an "italian" face (the quality of the product will be probaly bad too). If you buy nothing, the owner will be very unhappy and will show you all his/her disappointment. Even if you enter second time (if he will allow you to enter second time) with decision to buy after you've seen other shops (specially in this case!).
That is why I prefere to not enter these little shops and to choose other places for shopping.
This is not about ALL the shops but as general lines to remember.

The other sign that you have rich and stupid face, is that the owner do not give you the check. I do not like this "sign" not only because I do not like this treatment. Once I had to pay (in a bar) very great sum of penalty because I had not check for a cup of coffee...

You can see many "interesting" things during your walk in Salerno. Not so many as in other places, maybe. Salerno is very calm town where you can walk even in the night.
