How Sitting Can Literally Kill You: The Shocking Truth About Physical Inactivity

Do you often feel glued to your chair, binge-watching Netflix or scrolling through social media for hours? Well, it’s time to stand up and pay attention because your life might just depend on it.

How Sitting Can Literally Kill You: The Shocking Truth About Physical Inactivity

We all know that sitting too much is bad for us, but do you know just how bad it can be? Research shows that physical inactivity can lead to a whole host of health issues, from obesity to heart disease and even an increased risk of premature death. So, if you need another reason to get up and move, this is it.

A sedentary lifestyle has literally deadly effects on my health. The last time I went to the doctor for some tests, he told me that yes, after a year of treatment things were better, but I literally came close to diabetes.

Two years ago I still wore clothes measuring 46-48. Then suddenly the "fall" began: every season I had to completely change my wardrobe because I had become two sizes too big. Can you imagine this tragedy of seeing yourself inflate like a balloon?

At my age - and I am already 63 years old - even without health problems I am a person who feels comfortable at home. I'm capable of not leaving the house for weeks. Computers and cell phones are the ones that replace everything and everyone for me.

I like writing articles, and studying - because a self-employed copywriter's job requires continuous studies. And so in my little world, I am a happy person. My cats keep me company.

However, as I said before, this lifestyle definitely does not bring health benefits.

And at this point, you start to ask yourself: How to combat it?

I know, there are simple ways to combat the dangers of physical inactivity. You can take regular breaks from sitting, go for a walk during your lunch break, or even incorporate a quick workout into your daily routine. The doctor advised me to buy a home exercise bike since I'm always at home. At least get some exercise. It didn't go well for me personally because, in addition to spinning, you should also do other types of exercises to develop the whole body.

So, my personal "secret" to success in kicking myself out of the house is to find an interesting place to explore. I am a curious person, I love history, culture, and mysteries to explore. I create a list of places to go and only then do I convince myself to go out.

I try to get one two days a week and go and browse.
